Abstract: There has been much research on the benefits of music for children with autism. The domains benefiting most from the use of music are social and communications skills. The Sounds of Intent (SoI) Framework, has been developed by Ockelford and his colleagues to promote musical abilities amongst individuals with complex needs, including autism. This paper includes a review of other relevant past studies on the benefits of music for children with autism on their social and communication skills.
Abstract: Music recommendation system for individuals with autism spectrum disorder; Abstract: This study emphasizes that personalized music recommendation systems can significantly benefit individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by catering to their specific sensory and emotional needs. Different types of music can have varied therapeutic effects; for instance, calming music may help reduce anxiety, while rhythmic or upbeat music could be used to enhance focus or encourage social interaction. In general, songs with repetitive melodies or rhythm are more effective in improving the condition of ASD. The study underlines the importance of customizing music choices to each individual's unique preferences to maximize therapeutic outcomes.
Abstract: We introduce a model of musical preferences based on listeners’ affective reactions to excerpts of music from a wide variety of musical genres. The findings from three independent studies converged to suggest that there exists a latent five-factor structure underlying music preferences that is genre-free, and reflects primarily emotional/affective responses to music. We have interpreted and labeled these factors as: 1) a Mellow factor comprising smooth and relaxing styles; 2) an Urban factor defined largely by rhythmic and percussive music, such as is found in rap, funk, and acid jazz; 3) a Sophisticated factor that includes classical, operatic, world, and jazz; 4) an Intense factor defined by loud, forceful, and energetic music; and 5) a Campestral factor comprising a variety of different styles of direct, and rootsy music such as is often found in country and singer-songwriter genres.
